H:Dottes: William Laurie was Pipe Major of the 8th Argyllshire Battalion
H:+ of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1914.
H:+ Posted to France in 1915, he became ill in 1916 due to
H:+ trench conditions. Invalided to England, he died in
H:+ the Third Southern General Hospital in Oxford aged 35, one of
H:+ piping's greatest premature losses.
