H:Dottes: William Laurie became Pipe Major of the 8th Argyllshire Battalion
H:+ of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1914. He served with them
H:+ in France from 1915 to 1916 when he became ill as a result of
H:+ trench conditions. He was invalided to England where he died in
H:+ the Third Southern General Hospital in Oxford aged 35, one of
H:+ piping's greatest premature losses.
